Envision a world where scholarship is supported by online tools that allow scholars, researchers, students, faculty and staff to easily access the information they need, presented in the most useful way, in an environment that makes it easy to combine, manipulate, collaborate on, and share that data. Collaboration Services is working to help the UC Berkeley campus realize this vision in two ways:
vTagIt! creates bookmarks of specific points within video or audio clips playing in your browser.
CalEx provides a common, easy-to-use, interface for reading or creating entries in multiple calendar systems, including Oracle Calendar (CalAgenda), the UC Berkeley Calendar Network, and Google Calendar.
A project to develop a common strategy that can be used broadly across campus to guide the development of current campus collaborative tools as well as to guide the selection and introduction of new tools.
A project to select a single, common collaborative workspace suite for project and service team use across IST.
An investigation of the suitability of the Google Apps for Education and Microsoft Live@EDU service offerings.
An overview of collaborative tools, attempts to provide categories or taxonomies to talk about collaborative tools, and discusses the pros and cons of outsourcing these tools.
